Just like every snowflake is created with its own unique shape so it is with our souls. Every soul that has ever been fashioned is different. Scripture speaks to the wonder and mystery of this creative act (Gen 2:7, Ps 139:13-17, Eccl 11:5). C.S. Lewis said this about the uniqueness of every human soul.
“Your soul has a curious shape because it is a hollow made to fit a particular swelling in the infinite contours of the Divine Substance…”
I understand Lewis to be saying that though we all possess the image of God we each are capable of revealing something unique about the nature of God. God is infinite, which mean he is boundless and limitless. Though creation speaks to us about this God it can never exhaust the one it speaks about. Men and women in the image of God are the climax of God’s creation and as such we speak most clearly and loudly about God. In human beings we were meant to see God. The uniqueness of each person communicates the uniqueness of their Creator.
